During the original announcement for the Samsung Galaxy S III, it was revealed that buyers of the phone would be treated to 50GB of free online storage for two years from Dropbox, similar to the offer provided to HTC One series buyers (but twice as much). Unfortunately, it appears that the offer for the Galaxy S III is contingent on each carrier that sells the phone, and it doesn't look like AT&T and Verizon Wireless will be playing ball.
This weekend, it was discovered on Dropbox's support page that the AT&T and Verizon Wireless versions of the Samsung Galaxy S III would not be eligible for the 50GB of free online storage. Dropbox notes that carriers have the option to opt-out of the promotion, and AT&T and Verizon Wireless have chosen to do so. There is no mention of Sprint or T-Mobile in the support doc, so it is assumed that their versions of the phone will include the free storage promotion.
Though many customers will probably not care that AT&T and Verizon's versions will lack the extra Dropbox storage, it may hit hard for some AT&T customers, since the carrier has chosen to forgo the 32GB version of the phone and will only sell the 16GB model. At least there is always the option to put an extra microSD card into the Galaxy S III - something that AT&T will be sure to remind customers that bring up the lack of extra Dropbox storage.
